When Patriotism Becomes Symbolic: Rethinking Vande Mataram in India

  The recent debate in Parliament around Vande Mataram once again shows how quickly questions of nationalism turn into constitutional disputes in India. Nearly 150 years after Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote the song in 1875, it continues to resurface in public life, not as a cultural expression, but as a political and legal question. In a world shaped by controversies, clashes, and events that impact society politically, socially, and legally- We, Hardik Mundra and Khilesh Patle are law students of Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar [GNLU] have created Think Kanoon as a space to examine these events through a critical, legal, and occasionally satirical lens.
Our aim is simple:
to provide clarity, context, and correct understanding- with a touch of sharpness 
Think Kanoon is built on the belief that informed citizens think better, question better, and analyse better.
This platform is where we break assumptions, ask uncomfortable questions, decode controversies, and explore the deeper socio-legal and political truth behind events.
We write with three guiding principles:

1) Reason over Rhetoric
Noise is loud, clarity is powerful.
We prioritise logic, facts, and rational explanation over drama and exaggeration.

2) Context over Headlines
Every issue has a history, power dynamics, institutional consequences, and nuance.
Understanding these layers is essential- and we provide them so you can see the complete picture.

3) Impact over Ideology
Our goal is not to defend any side.
We ask: Who is affected? How does policy change lives? What does the law mean for society?
Impact matters more than narratives.

Think Kanoon is where law, society, politics, and critical thinking meet-
